Sonia Gandhi asks; why BJP govt in Karnataka is not increasing the LPG cylinder limit?

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi while addressing a Congress rally in Mangalore in Karnataka, asked the ruling BJP government in Karnataka what have it done for the welfare of the people. She also slammed the BJP by saying that it never took any serious action to fight corruption. “As you all know we have no control on the international prices of oil which have gone up from 40 dollars per barrels 10 years ago, to 140 dollars per barrel today. You know that we import 80% of crude oil from which we make petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas. We continue to subsidise kerosene which must be done. But we have been compelled and we have no option but to increase the prices of diesel and the cooking gas. In spite of these, UPA government is doing its best not to burden the people with more hardships. As we hold the responsibility as a Government at the Centre, the state government also has some responsibility. I want to ask the BJP government here why have not the government increase the limit of LPG cylinders to a family from 6 to 9. This is what our Congress government has done in the states ruled by us. Why has the Karnataka Government not reduced the VAT on diesel, just like our Congress led governments have done? So it is very easy to criticize others but what about you (the state government), what are you doing to reduce the hardships of your people? It is your (state government’s) responsibility as much as ours” said Sonia Gandhi.

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi while addressing a Congress rally in Mangalore in Karnataka, called for unity in the state Congress. She also launched a scathing attack on BJP and said that it never took any serious action to fight corruption. “Above all, a victory for the Congress is a victory for every one of you and if the party loses we all lose. So whenever we have been united, as I mentioned earlier, like in the time Indira Gandhi, at that time and throughout, we have swept the polls. So it is that very spirit of unity, of solidarity, that we should recapture and sustain” said Sonia Gandhi. “I want now to touch upon some national issues that are challenging and affecting the people of our country. The crisis in the global economy has worsened. And this is affecting us also significantly. Even though our growth rate is still respectable, our export growth has fallen and we are forced to pay much more the import of central commodities like oil, fertilizers and other vital materials. We face difficult and painful crisis on the one hand we have to ensure that the government finances remain healthy on the other hand and expenditure on our poverty alleviation programmes, rural development, education, health have to be not only protected but they have to be sustained” said Sonia Gandhi further.

There is a need to recapture the spirit of unity and solidarity, which the party workers had shown way back in 1977, to give a political rebirth to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi,” said Sonia Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi also visited the Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara temple in the city and inaugurated the centenary celebrations, Mangalore Dussehra and the elevator at the temple premises. She called upon people to uphold the concept of one caste, one religion and one world, propagated by Brahmashri Narayanaguru, who was the driving force behind the Kudroli temple.
