Coming down hard on Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav as well as BJP for encouraging hooliganism and casteism during their governments, Congress (I) general secretary Rahul Gandhi has said development was put under the carpet during the past 22 years. These parties having repeatedly failed to fulfill their promises of development, now only the Congress (I) could ensure development in the state, said Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting in Pratapgarh on February 13 for ongoing Assembly elections. “I am ready to work. You can get the maximum work done from me for development of the state. I will never backtrack. I am ready to toil hard. But, you should also realise your power,” he further said. When these parties were in power there was only corruption and scams, he added. But now at the election time they are making all sorts of promises to voters to mislead them once again, he said. Rahul Gandhi pointed out that even without having ‘our’ government in UP, Congress (I) has worked for the state by sending a number of welfare and developmental schemes. But the funds were pocketed by Mayawati instead of spending on the people. Assuring the people that his party would put the state on fast track development, Rahul Gandhi urged them this time give a chance to Congress (I) to form government. He assured that Congress (I) will do this all in next five years which these parties failed to do in last 22 years.
