Accusing Mayawati of Rs 28 crores scam pertaining to JSY funds, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said that she failed to protect the interests of poor women for whom Center has sent a number of welfare schemes. The money meant for the poor women was swindled by Mayawati, said Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for upcoming UP Assembly elections. “The Congress led Government at the centre send thousand of crores of amount to the state under various welfare schemes. But the money did not reach the poor”, he added. Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is one such program under NRHM. The scheme is meant to encourage institutional delivery of pregnant women for which Rs 1400 are given to each woman as incentive and around Rs 2,000 are paid to ASHA worker. But even in such type of welfare programs Maya indulged in corruption said Rahul Gandhi. For instance in Allahabad district 619 unmarried girls were shown to have delivered and amount was fraudulently claimed in their names. Highlighting that Mayawati’s is not interested in the welfare of the poor, Rahul Gandhi, urged the people to show her the door. He appealed them to vote this time for Congress (I) and promised that a government of the poor by Congress (I) would ensure that the benefits of welfare scheme reach them.
