Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi who has been on a five-day tour to poll bound Uttar Pradesh continued his relentless attack on the Mayawati led BSP government on corruption, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a potshot at the ruling party on Friday and said that "the elephant (BSP symbol) in the state eats grass as well as sugarcane and sugar mills".
Addressing a largely-attended election rally at Dr Rizvi Degree College in Karari on Friday, Rahul held BSP responsible for the pathetic state of affairs in UP. "Haathi ghaas khata hai, aur saath mein ganna aur sugar mill bhi kha jaata hai (Elephant eats grass as well as sugarcane and sugar mills)," he alluded sarcastically. Holding both Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party and ruling BSP responsible for "UP's backwardness and endemic corruption", Rahul said "while former's tenure was mired by the police recruitment scam, the present government has eaten into the Central funds sanctioned for public welfare schemes".
Rahul Gandhi assured that a Congress Government in Uttar Pradesh will ensure that development works are back in the state. He also assured that a pro-poor Congress Government in U.P will definitely bring back the lost glory of Uttar Pradesh and the state will again surge ahead as we see in all other Congress ruled states.
