Congress (I) has hit hard against Mayawati government for indulging in mining scams which have caused loss of thousands of crore to the state. Uttar Pradesh is quite rich in natural resources. Lime store, sands, gravel and stones used in construction works are available in plenty in the state, said Congress (I). Mayawati’s BSP party leader Iqbal Ahmed is very much known figure in UP Mining Department. Everything in that department is done at the command of Iqbal Ahmed. According to new Mining Policy every lease or licence has to be renewed once in a year, said Congress (I). But Mayawati government does not apply that rule in the case of Iqbal Ahmed. Nobody in the Mining Department knows when the leases or licences were given to Iqbal Ahmed or when these were renewed. Mayawati is so happy with the ‘return’ services of Iqbal Ahmed that only few months back, he has been appointed as MLC by her, said Congress (I).
