Maya govt failed to achieve targets of old age pension scheme: Congress (I)

Referring to observations of the CAG report, Congress (I) has slammed Mayawati government for failing to achieve the set targets of old age pension scheme in Uttar Pradesh. The object of the scheme was to provide social security in the form of financial help to persons of old age and widows who do not have any source for their livelihood.  In addition there is also provision that in case the head of family dies between the age of 18-64 then his family is entitled to one time financial assistance from the state. But due to corruption and mismanagement in Mayawati government such beneficiaries have neither been identified nor has their verification exercise been undertaken.  As such none of such persons or their families are getting pension while provision exists but required action on the part of Mayawati government does not exist. On the other hand there are plenty of complaints about bogus pensioners and release of pensions even after death of the personers, said Congress (I).
