Sonia Gandhi on Indo-Pak tension: Dialogue must be based on principles of civilised behavior

Congress President Sonia Gandhi while speaking at the opening session of Congress’ chintan shivir at Jaipur emphasised on peaceful ties with neighbouring countries. Sonia Gandhi said that the relations should be based on “principles of civilised behaviour”. Her statements come in the wake of the brutal killing of two Indian Army soldiers near the Line of Control by Pakistani troops on 8 January.
“Let us be very clear, our dialogue must be based on principles of civilised behavior. We will never compromise. India’s foreign policy has always had a vision for its unique position in world affairs. This will be enhanced when we strengthen democracy”, said the Congress President.
Sonia Gandhi said the party must strike a fine balance between allies, policies. “In some states the party has not been able to consolidate political support. This is an issue that will have to be looked at”, she said. “We have to strike a fine balance between respecting alliances and ensuring rejuvenation of the party”, she added.”In some cases, historic legislation by UPA has not been translated into political support; I hope that will be discussed”.
She also said, “The last nine years have been a period of tremendous economic growth, social change and technological innovation. We should look at our strengths, our weaknesses and the threats we face. We have to recognise the new India. The younger generation is more demanding and less tolerant.”

Sonia Gandhi in Uttarakhand asks BJP “How many promises were fulfilled?”

Congress President Sonia Gandhi while addressing a public rally in Uttarakhand said the conditions in Uttarakhand had been worsening. “The BJP came to power in the state after making hell lot of promises but I want to ask you as to what happened to those promises? How many promises were fulfilled?, Sonia Gandhi asked"
"We (the Congress) are concerned about you. This is why Congress manifesto says that the government would develop Tehri Dam area for tourist attraction. This will lead to livelihood for the local unemployed people," said the Congress President. “A proper amount of food grains will also be provided to solve the problems of the families who had been displaced because of the dam. Steps will also be taken for the rehabilitation in terms of settlement and employment for the families affected by the building of the dam," added Sonia Gandhi.
Sonia Gandhi asked people to oust the BJP government from the state. "If you want to save the environment of Uttarakhand, its natural resources from being looted, if you want the common man to lead a happy life, if you want to get your rights and the real Uttarakhand back, then changing the Chief Minister is not the only way, you need to change the government as well" said Sonia Gandhi.
Sonia Gandhi also claimed that whatever development is visible even now in Uttarakhand was carried out in past by the Congress. "We have always taken special care of the development of Uttarakhand. Whatever development you see in the state is the work of the Congress government," said the Congress President.

BJP Government in Uttarakhand betrays the people: Sonia Gandhi

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi while addressing a mammoth public rally in Uttarakhand said that the BJP cheated the people of Uttarakhand in the name of progress. Sonia Gandhi added that that it looted the natural treasures of Uttarakhand and the people should give a befitting reply for their misdeeds.  Sonia Gandhi also commented that that by merely changing the Chief Minister nothing was going to happen.
Sonia Gandhi said “For the past few years the ruling party (BJP) has been betraying the people of Uttarakhand. It tried to cover its dishonest face with mask of lies. But when the mask got unveiled they changed the Chief Minister. The rampant loot and the cheating are still prevailing”.
The Congress President alleged that only 10% of the people got the benefits of the Congress-led UPA Governments Mahatma Gandhi NREGA policy.” Only 40% of the funds were utilized by the BJP Government. Unemployment has been increased. If we want to help the people of Uttarakhand, if you want to get your beautiful Uttarakhand back, if you want to protect your own rights, then only a CM-change won’t do, but the government needs to be changed. For that you will have to defeat the BJP in the coming elections and elect a Congress Government. I am confident about your support and I am sure that you will vote and elect a Congress Government” added Sonia Gandhi.

Pubjab destroyed by BJP-SAD Government, says Sonia Gandhi

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi while talking at big rally organized by the  Congress in Punjab blamed the SAD-BJP Government for the bad state of affairs in Punjab. During her speech she asked Punjab's ruling Akali Dal-BJP alliance to explain as to whether development in the last five years meant adding seven lakh more poor families to the 13 lakh existing in the State.
Sonia Gandhi described the present BJP-SAD Government as the most inefficient.” During its tenure the State witnessed total decline on all fronts”, alleged the Congress President.
Sonia Gandhi charged the State government with failing to utilise more than Rs. 526 crore of the Rs. 5000 crore grant provided to it under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
“Is this the development you are talking about?” Sonia Gandhi asked.
“It is in your hands whether you want Punjab to progress under a Congress government or you let it decline further under Akali Dal-BJP alliance,” she said.
