Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a centre of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) at Bihar’s Kishanganj. While addressing the gathering after the function, she cautioned the people against the threat of communal forces and stressed for the need to wage a battle against them. “There are forces at present which are trying to derail Mahatma Gandhi's ideology. We must fight them and that is the greatest challenge before us” said Sonia Gandhi.

It is the responsibility of the administration to protect the secular fabric of our country and to ensure equal opportunities to minorities” said Sonia Gandhi. ”We must know that inclusive growth is necessary for overall development and to bring happiness in the lives of the people of all sections” added the UPA Chairperson.

Sonia Gandhi inaugurates SAMARTH 2014, stresses the need to protect the rights of the disabled

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi inaugurated 'SAMARTH 2014 -- Celebrating Diversity', a national festival for showcasing the abilities of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) being organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi on Wednesday. "This SAMARTH festival reflects the diversified culture of our country and also our sense of inclusiveness. Our system does provide every one with equal rights. At the same time, we will have to put in more efforts to ensure the rights of the persons with disability", said the Congress President in her inaugural address. "Development will be complete only if we include the persons with disabilities also in the growth process. It is necessary to make our lives more meaningful," she said.
