Attacking regional party leaders like Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav for not meeting the people to know their problems, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi has said that only Congress (I) has reached out to the people in their hour of need. “Mayawati is your Chief Minister for the past five years. Mulayam Singh Yadav was your Chief Minster thrice. Did any one of them come to you in the past five years?” asked Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting in Hardoi recently for the ongoing Assembly elections.
“When the people in the drought-hit Bundelkhand were crying, I had visited the region,” he said and added that neither Mayawati nor Mulayam visited the people in distress. How then these parties could talk of the people or the development without going among them and talking to them, Rahul Gandhi further said.
Although it was the responsibility of the state government to help its people, Congress (I)-led UPA government at the Centre made available a relief package of Rs 8,000 crores to help the people of Bundelkhand. But the money was swallowed by the magic elephant sitting in Lucknow and the people got nothing.
Highlighting that these parties were not interested in the welfare of the people, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to vote for change and assured that Congress (I) will bring back the state of Uttar Pradesh to the track of development.
